“America Got Talent” has always been one of my favorite TV programs. Even though I’m Deaf, I still love watching it, especially the singers. Watching what they wear, how they move and perform, and their facial inspires me. A recent show selected the $1 million challenge winner, magician Shih Lim. Congratulations, Shih!
In 2015, Nyle DiMarco, a Deaf model, actor, and activist was chosen as the second male winner and the first Deaf winner of “America’s Next Top Model Cycle 22.” The following year, he won the 22nd season of “Dancing with the Stars,” partnering with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd. His two wins inspired not only me, but the entire Deaf community. He encouraged us all to stand up for our beliefs and voice our perspectives.
There are many other Deaf influencers who have inspired me, and I’d like to rave about a few of them.
Seeing successful Deaf-owned companies like The Daily Moth, Convo Relay, Mozzeria, and T.S.Writing Services, and independent contractors such as real estate agents, Lyft, DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber and the like, makes me feel great. Any way we can give Deaf people more opportunities to be secure financially is great. I myself drive for Lyft and Uber, along with DoorDash. (If you’d like to sign up for any of these, click here!)
I’m gonna keep this blog short because I have some exciting news. Referrals By Robb’s becoming DEAFinitelyRobb! While the mission and focus remain the same (Blog. Deaf World. Affiliates.), I’m changing the name to better reflect what I want to do. Check the updated site here. Although it’s still being built, feel free to look around and subscribe!
Blog: I enjoy writing. What about using ASL to create vlogs? Good question. I’m not prepared to do that yet, so for now, I’ll just stay with English until the time is right. The blog focuses on Deaf-related topics, business, and cultural differences between the Deaf and hearing communities.
Deaf World: This is where I share my and other Deaf people’s experiences, stories, and beyond! Topics include ASL, whether or not being Deaf is a disability, Deaf education, and so much more.
DEAFinitelyRobb has worked with a variety of companies and partners, and you’ll see some ads on our site soon. Browse Deaf-related products like books on ASL, humorous T-shirts, novelties, gifts and other items via our affiliate links like Amazon or eBay. Support Deaf people!
